Tο επίκεντρο του σεισμού εντοπίζεται στο νησί Λέιτε στις Φιλιππίνες.
Λόγω του μεγάλου μεγέθους της σεισμικής δόνησης υπάρχουν φόβοι για τσουνάμι.
